Privacy Policy
Casebird tracks USCIS cases using only the receipt number. This page explains what we store, why, and how to remove it.
The short version
- We never ask for your USCIS online account password, A-Number, Social Security number, passport or any documents.
- We store the receipt numbers you add, the status history USCIS returns for them, and the settings you choose.
- We do not sell your data, do not show ads, and do not use advertising or tracking SDKs.
- You can delete your account and all of your cases at any time from the Account tab.
Who we are
Casebird Tracker (“Casebird”, “we”) is an independent app and is not affiliated with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or the U.S. government. Questions about this policy: [email protected].
What we collect
Account
You sign in with Apple or Google. We store the stable account identifier the provider gives us, your app language, and your plan (Free, Plus, Family or Pro). We do not store your password. Billing is handled by the App Store or Google Play; we never see your card details.
Cases
For each case you add: the receipt number, the nickname you give it, the form type, the receipt or filing date, and optionally a priority date, visa category and country of chargeability. We also keep the status text and dates that USCIS returns so you can see the history. Receipt numbers are stored encrypted at rest and transmitted only over HTTPS; status checks are scheduled using a keyed hash rather than the raw number.
Notifications
If you allow notifications we store the push token for your device, your quiet hours, and the alerts we have sent you.
“Cases like yours” (optional)
If you turn this on for a case, we add its form type, office, dates and milestones to anonymous statistics that help other users estimate processing times. Only a masked receipt (for example IOE•••••6781) is shown; your full receipt number and name are never included. You can turn it off per case at any time.
Sharing a case
When you share a case, we create a link token that lets the recipient see that case's status. You can revoke it at any time from the case screen.
Pro accounts (law offices)
A Pro account can add a client's case only after the client has consented. We store the client's name and preferred language. Notes a firm writes about a client are encrypted and are never shown to the client through the app.
Camera and biometrics
Scanning an I-797C notice reads the barcode on your device. Photos are not saved or uploaded. Face ID / fingerprint lock is handled entirely by your phone's operating system; we never receive biometric data.
Support
If you email us or send feedback in the app, we keep that message to reply to you.
How we use it
- To check your case status with USCIS and alert you when it changes.
- To show processing-time estimates, Guides, News and the Assistant relevant to your form type.
- To provide the plan you purchased and to prevent abuse of the service.
- To answer support requests.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Who else sees it
- USCIS — your receipt number is sent to the USCIS Case Status API to retrieve the status. USCIS's own privacy policy applies to that service.
- Hosting — our servers run on Fly.io and our database on Supabase, both in the United States.
- Push delivery — Expo Push, Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging deliver notifications to your device.
- Sign-in and billing — Apple and Google, under their own policies.
- Legal — we may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. Deleting your account removes your cases, status history, alerts and share links within 30 days. Anonymous “Cases like yours” statistics cannot be linked back to you and remain. Archived cases are kept until you delete them.
Your choices
- Delete your account from Account → Delete account, or email us.
- Turn notifications and “Cases like yours” on or off at any time.
- Request a copy of your data by emailing [email protected].
Children
Casebird is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will also notify you in the app.
